Changes to a Student's Daily Transportation Routine
It is important that we know how your student will regularly get to and from school. If there is any change in your student’s regular transportation, please:

• Send a written Note to Teacher to the office indicating the change, e.g. different bus (only with the permission of the District and Principal and for emergency reasons only), pick-up instead of bus, ride with different parent/grandparent, etc.
• Be aware that students may not switch buses due to some buses operating at capacity. If a student is going home with a friend, private transportation is required.
• If we do not have a note from you and your child states a change in transportation, Saint Kilian Parish School will adhere to the normal means of transportation.

School Bus Rules for Students
Time spent on the bus is an extension of the school day; therefore, students are expected to behave on the bus the same as they do while in the school.

• Mobile devices are not to be used while on a school bus and must be turned off and in a student's backpack (see Policy for Non-School Owned Mobile Devices in the SKPS iPad Handbook on the Parent Portal).
• Students are to use quiet voices as loud talking, singing etc. may distract the driver, keep other students from hearing instructions, or prevent the driver from hearing signals from emergency vehicles.
• Students are to remain seated at all times. If the driver has assigned seats, the seat assignments are to be honored.
• Students are not to put anything out the window of the bus (head, hands and feet included).
• In vehicles where seat belts are available, students are to use them properly.
• Students are to be courteous on the bus and refrain (as always) from using profane language.
• Students are to refrain from using any electronic, mobile device (iPad, cell phone, gaming systems, etc.)
• Students are to keep the bus clean.
• Eating, drinking and gum chewing is prohibited on the school bus.
• Students are to get off only at their assigned stop.
• Students are to cooperate with the driver - the driver is always in charge.
• Any additional instructions from the driver are to be followed.

School Bus Behavior Policy
If there are behavior problems, the bus driver will notify the school principal. Consequences will be implemented according to the Saint Kilian Parish School Discipline Policy available on the Parent Portal. If the problem persists, the district has the right to suspend a student's bus privileges, either temporarily or permanently. If the district recommends that a student be removed from the bus, the principal will support it, resulting in the student's loss of bus services. The parent/guardian will then be responsible for alternate transportation for the student.

Mars will provide 2 buses exclusively for K - 8 SKPS students. Mars School District Transportation Department has provided the following information regarding busing of SKPS students:

Mars buses follow the Mars schedule in the case of inclement weather as follows:

• If there is a 2 hour delay at Mars, all buses will pick up 2 hours late.
• If Mars is closed, there is no busing that day.
• If Mars and SKPS are on a 2 hour delay - bus will pick up 2 hours late.
• If Mars is on a delay and SKPS is not, Mars will pick up 2 hours late - you should plan to take your child to school instead so they are not 2 hours late (in the event they do come 2 hours late, they will be given an excused tardy).
• If Mars is not on a delay and SKPS is, you will need to bring your child to school as the bus will come at its normal time and no one will be at SKPS to retrieve your child off the bus. 
• If Mars is closed and SKPS is open, you will need to drive your child to and from school. 
• Mars will not bus home if SKPS dismisses school early due to impending inclement weather and Mars does not.

Pine Richland School District Transportation Department has provided the following information regarding busing of K - 8 SKPS students:

Pine buses follow the Pine-Richland schedule in the case of inclement weather as follows:

• If there is a 2 hour delay at Pine Richland, all buses will pick up 2 hours late.
• If Pine is closed, there is no busing that day.
• If Pine and SKPS are on a 2 hour delay - bus will pick up 2 hours late.
• If Pine is on a delay and SKPS is not, Pine will pick up 2 hours late - you should plan to take your child to school instead so they are not 2 hours late (in the event they do come 2 hours late, they will be given an excused tardy).
• If Pine is not on a delay and SKPS is, you will need to bring your child to school as the bus will come at its normal time and no one will be at SKPS to retrieve your child off the bus. 
• if Pine is closed and SKPS is open, you will need to drive your child to and from school.

Please note, as per the Seneca Valley School District Transportation office, no child is permitted to give a note to the driver to allow them to ride a different bus in order to be dropped off in a different place. Riding a different bus is reserved for emergency reasons and the SKPS school office must sign off on the request. Please be so kind as to adhere to the policies of the district so you do not put your children in jeopardy of riding a Seneca Valley bus.
